The Confucius Institute at the University of Nebraska offers Chinese language, music, and dance courses to the community for both adults and children. BEGINNING CHINESE I (CICL 101)
CICL 101 teaches Chinese to children in easy steps through storytelling. This course is designed to engage children's interest with Chinese fables that also build basic vocabulary and phrases in Chinese. Children should be able to develop a basic understanding of the Chinese language by having fun and learning more about Chinese culture, legends, and stories.
BEGINNING CHINESE II (CICL 102)
CICL 102 teaches Chinese to children in easy steps through storytelling. This course is designed to engage children's interest with Chinese fables that also develop basic skills in listening, speaking, and reading Chinese.
CHINESE MUSIC CLASS
Chinese Music Class is a class for Children to learn more about Chinese culture through song and music. Students will learn classic Chinese children's song instructed by a professional music teacher. This class is held in cooperation with the Lincoln Chinese Association.
CHINESE DANCE CLASS
Chinese dance Class is a class for Children to learn more about Chinese culture through dance. Students will learn traditional Chinese dances from various ethnic groups taught by a professional dance instructor. This class is held in cooperation with the Lincoln Chinese Association.
INTERMEDIATE CHINESE II FOR CHILDREN (CICL 202)
This course is designed to help students to learn Chinese at an intermediate level by introducing more Chinese characters and encouraging proper and accurate pronunciations of words during class in order to reinforce the previously learned knowledge. Course contents include introducing vocabulary on nationalities and cities, time and date, occupations, animals and nature, colors and clothing and more. This class continues to focus on conversational Chinese. Students are expected to learn 150 new characters and be able to take YCT Level 2 or HSK Level 1 at the end of the class.
ADVANCED CHINESE II FOR CHILDREN (CICL 302)
CICL 302 is a sequential class to CICL 301. Students are instructed to achieve higher levels of capabilities in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in Chinese. Additional commonly used Chinese characters and phrases will be introduced to students to expand their vocabulary. After this class, students will be able to conduct conversations related to their daily life circumstances in a wider range.
