BEGINNING CHINESE I (CICL 101) 

CICL 101 is a course for people with limited Chinese language exposure.  This class will present the pinyin (Chinese phonics) system, description of Chinese characters, and an introduction to Chinese culture.  It will emphasize the communication skills that are closely related to everyday life on five themes: greetings, names, nationalities, occupations and ages.  Students are expected to learn about 100 Chinese characters by the end of the class.

BEGINNING CHINESE II (CICL 102) 

CICL 102 will continue to teach basic Chinese language skills and introduce more Chinese culture.  It will help students improve their listening, speaking, reading, and basic writing skills in Chinese.  Upon completion of this course, students will be able to have simple conversations about one's hobbies and daily life routines, express their needs, give others instructions by using simple sentences, and speak Chinese more fluently.  Students are expected to learn another 100 Chinese characters and be able to take HSK Level 1 by the end of the class.

INTERMEDIATE CHINESE I (CICL 201)

CICL 201 is a sequential class to CICL 102.  Language instructors will teach students more practical Chinese language skills.  The course contents cover more topics on Chinese culture.  Teaching will also focus more on speaking and listening skills related to aspects of Chinese food, clothing, traveling and accommodation.  Students will start to learn how to write some common Chinese characters, order food in a Chinese restaurant, introduce their families and occupations, make and answer phone calls, and ask for directions to various locations.

INTERMEDIATE CHINESE II (CICL 202)

CICL 202 is designed to help students strengthen their basic Chinese language skills, with a focus on more accurate pronunciation and correct sentences.  Students will be able to expand their conversational skills on topics such as making an appointment, talking about their plans and schedules, shopping, and expressing their choices and preferences.  A short supplementary component of Chinese culture will also be included.  By the end of this class, students are expected to learn 150 new characters and be able to take HSK Level 2.

Children Classes

BEGINNING CHINESE I (CICL 101)

CICL 101 teaches Chinese to children in easy steps through storytelling.  This course is designed to engage children's interest with Chinese fables that also build basic vocabulary and phrases in Chinese.  Children should be able to develop a basic understanding of the Chinese language by having fun and learning more about Chinese culture, legends, and stories.

Chinese Music Class is a class for Children to learn more about Chinese culture through song and music. Students will learn classic Chinese children's song instructed by a professional music teacher. This class is held in cooperation with the Lincoln Chinese Association.

CHINESE DANCE CLASS

Chinese dance Class is a class for Children to learn more about Chinese culture through dance. Students will learn traditional Chinese dances from various ethnic groups taught by a professional dance instructor. This class is held in cooperation with the Lincoln Chinese Association.

INTERMEDIATE CHINESE II FOR CHILDREN (CICL 202)

This course is designed to help students to learn Chinese at an intermediate level by introducing more Chinese characters and encouraging proper and accurate pronunciations of words during class in order to reinforce the previously learned knowledge.  Course contents include introducing vocabulary on nationalities and cities, time and date, occupations, animals and nature, colors and clothing and more.  This class continues to focus on conversational Chinese.  Students are expected to learn 150 new characters and be able to take YCT Level 2 or HSK Level 1 at the end of the class.

ADVANCED CHINESE II FOR CHILDREN (CICL 302)

CICL 302 is a sequential class to CICL 301.  Students are instructed to achieve higher levels of capabilities in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in Chinese.  Additional commonly used Chinese characters and phrases will be introduced to students to expand their vocabulary.  After this class, students will be able to conduct conversations related to their daily life circumstances in a wider range.
