CONFUCIUS CLASSROOM (ADULTS 14+)

BEGINNING CHINESE I (CICL 101) 

CICL 101 is a course for people with limited Chinese language exposure.  This class will present the pinyin (Chinese phonics) system, description of Chinese characters, and an introduction to Chinese culture.  It will emphasize the communication skills that are closely related to everyday life on five themes: greetings, names, nationalities, occupations and ages.  Students are expected to learn about 100 Chinese characters by the end of the class.

BEGINNING CHINESE LANGUAGE AND CULTURE (CCPE 102) 

Bellevue University, in association with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Confucius Institute, offers two non-credit (18-clock hour) Chinese culture and Mandarin language courses. Each course offers an interactive classroom environment designed for individuals who wish to do business with, travel to, or simply learn more about China.

BEGINNING CHINESE II (CICL 102) 

CICL 102 will continue to teach basic Chinese language skills and introduce more Chinese culture.  It will help students improve their listening, speaking, reading, and basic writing skills in Chinese.  Upon completion of this course, students will be able to have simple conversations about one's hobbies and daily life routines, express their needs, give others instructions by using simple sentences, and speak Chinese more fluently.  Students are expected to learn another 100 Chinese characters and be able to take HSK Level 1 by the end of the class.

INTERMEDIATE CHINESE I (CICL 201)

CICL 201 is designed to help students strengthen their basic Chinese language skills, with a focus on more accurate pronunciation and correct sentences.  Students will be able to expand their conversational skills on topics such as making an appointment, talking about their plans and schedules, shopping, and expressing their choices and preferences.  A short supplementary component of Chinese culture will also be included.  By the end of this class, students are expected to learn 150 new characters and be able to take HSK Level 2.

ADVANCED CHINESE I (CICL 301)

CICL 301 is designed to help students strengthen their basic Chinese language skills, with a focus on more accurate pronunciation and correct sentences.  Students will be able to expand their conversational skills by focusing on independent sentence structure and learning how to create their own unique sentences from learned vocabulary.  By the end of this class, students are expected to learn 200 new characters and be able to take HSK Level 2 or 3.

(Ages 6-14) 

BEGINNING CHINESE (CK 1)

CK 1 teaches Chinese to children in easy steps through storytelling and games.  This course is designed to engage children's interest with Chinese fables that also build basic vocabulary and phrases in Chinese and games that compel them to use what they learned.  Children should be able to develop a basic understanding of the Chinese language by having fun and learning more about Chinese culture, legends, and stories.

CK 2 teaches Chinese to children in easy steps through storytelling.  This course is designed  to engage children's interest with Chinese fables that also develop basic skills in listening, speaking, and reading Chinese. They will learn things like colors, animals, emotions, and simple sentences.

In CK 3 students are instructed to achieve higher levels of capabilities in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in Chinese.  Additional commonly used Chinese characters and phrases will be introduced to students to expand their vocabulary.  After this class, students will be able to conduct conversations related to their daily life circumstances in a wider range.
